Appliance Replacement Savings
Estimate the annual electricity savings, CO2 reduction, and payback period when you replace an old appliance with an energy-efficient model, straight from the power consumption.
Input
A representative grid average. Default is 0.45 (estimate) and varies by country and region.
Enter a cost to calculate the payback period.

| Item | Old | New | Difference (saved) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annual electricity cost | $13,950.00 | $7,750.00 | $6,200.00 |
| Annual CO2 emissions | 202.5 kg | 112.5 kg | 90 kg |
How it works
- Annual electricity cost is calculated as yearly power use (kWh) multiplied by the electricity rate (per kWh); the difference between the old and new appliance is your yearly savings.
- Annual CO2 emissions are estimated as yearly power use (kWh) multiplied by the CO2 emission factor (kg-CO2/kWh), and the difference is the reduction. The default factor of 0.45 kg-CO2/kWh is a rough grid-average estimate and varies significantly by country, region, and your electricity plan.
- The payback period is the replacement cost divided by the annual savings. It is not shown when the cost is left blank or when the savings are zero or below.
- The default electricity rate is a representative value; electricity prices and currencies differ by country, so enter the rate from your own bill for a more accurate estimate.
- Enter the annual energy consumption from the product catalog or energy label. Actual figures depend on how the appliance is used, such as run time and temperature settings.
- Results are rough estimates only. They exclude installation and disposal fees beyond the unit price, as well as any added comfort from improved performance.
