Constant Velocity Speed Calculator (v = d / t)
Find the speed of uniform motion from distance and time using v = d / t. Choose meters or kilometers and seconds, minutes, or hours, and read the result in both m/s and km/h.
Input
Enter the distance traveled and the time it took to calculate the speed of uniform motion.
Unit
m
Unit
sec
Speed v is calculated as distance d divided by time t.
Result
Speed
10m/s
36 km/h
Meters per second

Kilometers per hour

Kilometers per second

Distance is converted to m and time to s, then v = d / t gives the speed, which is converted to each unit.
How it works
- Speed v equals the distance traveled d divided by the elapsed time t (v = d / t).
- Distance is converted to meters and time to seconds before dividing, so the speed comes out in the SI base unit m/s.
- To convert m/s to km/h, multiply by 3.6 (1 m/s equals 3.6 km/h).
- This formula assumes uniform motion at a steady speed. If the speed changes, the result is the average speed over the whole interval.
- Enter a time greater than zero and a distance of zero or more.
