Constant Velocity Time Calculator
Find the travel time for motion at constant speed from distance and velocity. Time equals distance divided by speed, shown in seconds, minutes, and hours.
Input
Enter a distance and a speed to find how long it takes to travel at constant velocity.
Unit
m (meters)
Unit
m/s (meters per second)
The travel time is found from time equals distance divided by speed.
Result
Travel time
10s
Seconds
10 s
Minutes
0.166667 min
Hours
0.002778 h
In SI units the distance is 100 m and the speed is 10 m/s.
How it works
- In uniform motion at constant speed, the travel time is time equals distance divided by speed (t equals d over v). It comes from rearranging speed equals distance over time.
- The entered distance and speed are converted to SI base units (meters for distance, meters per second for speed) before the calculation.
- The resulting time in seconds is also converted to minutes and hours for convenience.
- If the speed is zero the object never arrives, so the time cannot be computed. Distance and speed must be zero or greater.
- This assumes motion at a constant speed. It does not apply to motion with acceleration or deceleration.
