How it works
- Household pension = the sum of both spouses' gross yearly pensions. Enter each person's old-age basic pension (national pension) and employees' pension (earnings-related portion) as a yearly gross amount. The monthly figure is the yearly amount divided by 12.
- If a spouse has no employees' pension (self-employed, full-time homemaker, etc.), set the employees' pension to 0. The full old-age basic pension is roughly 800,000 yen per year as a guide (it varies by year and months of contribution).
- Estimated lifetime total = household yearly amount × the number of years you expect to receive it. Enter how many years you expect the couple to receive together (it does not reflect inflation, pension revisions, or early/deferred claiming).
- This tool only sums the gross pension amounts; it does not deduct taxes or social insurance. To see your actual take-home, use a pension take-home calculator as well.
- All figures are rough estimates only. Actual pension amounts vary by contribution period, earnings, claiming age, and system revisions. Confirm your estimated amount via Japan's Nenkin Net or your local pension office.
