Inductor Series and Parallel Calculator

Calculate the total inductance of coils (inductors) connected in series or parallel. Enter any number of inductance values separated by commas and view a circuit diagram.

Input

Enter each coil inductance value in henries separated by commas, choose the connection type, and the total inductance is calculated.

Connection type

Choose series or parallel.

Enter several values separated by commas or spaces. Example: 10, 22, 47

Result

Total inductance (Series)

79H

Parallel total

5.99768 H

Number of coils

3

10 H22 H47 H

For a series connection the total inductance is the sum of the values. Mutual inductance is ignored.

How it works

  • In a series connection the total inductance is the sum of each coil (L = L1 + L2 + ... + Ln).
  • In a parallel connection the total inductance is the reciprocal of the sum of reciprocals (1/L = 1/L1 + 1/L2 + ... + 1/Ln).
  • This calculation ignores mutual inductance (magnetic coupling) between coils. Real circuits may differ when coils are coupled.
  • Values are treated in henries (H). When using millihenries or microhenries, enter all values in the same unit.
