Asr (afternoon) calculation method
Standard (shadow = object length × 1: Shafi'i and others)
From a location, date and UTC offset, this calculates that day's five daily prayer times plus sunrise, and the Qibla direction toward Mecca. Times are shown in the local time of the UTC offset you enter.
Result
Enter a location and date.
How it works
- Enter a location (latitude and longitude), date and UTC offset to instantly see that day's five prayer times, sunrise, and the Qibla direction to Mecca. Choosing a major-city preset fills in the latitude, longitude and time offset automatically.
- Each prayer time is found by astronomically computing the moment the sun reaches a defined altitude. Fajr and Isha use the twilight angle (default 18°), Maghrib is sunset, and Asr is determined by shadow length.
- Asr (the afternoon prayer) is defined differently by school of thought, so you can switch between Standard (shadow = object length × 1) and Hanafi (× 2).
- The Qibla direction is the great-circle bearing on a spherical Earth (clockwise from true north), shown together with the approximate distance to Mecca.
- Results are approximations that ignore atmospheric refraction, elevation, and special corrections for high latitudes. For actual prayers, follow the timetable published by your nearest mosque or Islamic authority.
