How it works

  • Magnetic flux density is based on the SI unit tesla (T), with 1 millitesla (mT) = 0.001 T and 1 microtesla (µT) = 0.000001 T.
  • In the CGS system, the gauss (G) is defined relative to SI as 1 G = 0.0001 T (10⁻⁴ T), and 1 kilogauss (kG) = 1000 G = 0.1 T.
  • The gamma (γ), used in geomagnetic measurements, equals 1 γ = 1 nanotesla (nT) = 10⁻⁹ T, a handy unit for very weak magnetic fields.
  • Enter the value to convert and choose its original unit to see the conversion to every unit in one table.
  • Values with extremely large or small magnitudes are automatically shown in exponential notation for readability.
  • For reference, a household neodymium magnet is roughly 0.1–0.5 T at its surface, while an MRI field is about 1.5–3 T.
