Pet Obesity Calculator
Calculate a dog or cat's obesity rate (%) from current and ideal weight, and see whether they are underweight, ideal, or obese along with a Body Condition Score (BCS) guide.
Input
Obesity rate estimates how much your pet's current weight exceeds its ideal weight. Body size varies even within the same breed, so please treat the result as a rough guide.

| Severely obese | 30.0% or more | BCS 8-9 / 9 |
How it works
- The obesity rate (%) is calculated as (current weight - ideal weight) / ideal weight x 100. A positive value means the pet is heavier than ideal, while a negative value means lighter.
- As a rough guide, roughly within plus or minus 10% is shown as Ideal, +10% to +20% as Slightly overweight, and +20% or more as Obese. A 9-point Body Condition Score (BCS) guide is shown alongside.
- Ideal weight depends on breed, age, and frame. If you are unsure of the correct ideal weight, have it measured at your veterinary clinic and ask for advice.
- Results from this tool are only a guide for managing body condition. Actual obesity assessment is best done comprehensively with a BCS evaluation that includes palpation of the ribs and waist as well as visual appearance.
- If you are concerned about sudden weight changes or obesity, always consult a veterinarian before starting a diet or feeding restriction. Extra care is needed for pets with existing health conditions.
- Enter half-width numbers. The result is calculated automatically once both the current and ideal weight are greater than 0.
