Square Prism Volume Calculator

Find the volume of a square prism from its base edge and height. Base area, surface area, and the space diagonal are computed too.

Input

Find the volume of a square prism, a prism with a square base. Enter the base edge and the height.

Result

Length units match your input. Area uses squared units and volume uses cubed units.

How it works

  • This tool handles a square prism whose base is a square with edge length a. The volume V equals the base area times the height h, so V = a squared times h.
  • The base area is a squared, the lateral area is 4ah, and the total surface area S adds the two bases, giving S = 2a squared plus 4ah.
  • The space diagonal, joining the two farthest vertices, is the square root of (2a squared plus h squared).
  • Length units match your input. Area uses squared units and volume uses cubed units. For example, entering edge and height in cm gives a volume in cubic cm.
  • Both the base edge a and the height h must be positive numbers. Values of zero or below, or non numeric entries, cannot be calculated.
