Transfer Speed Calculator
Calculate the effective transfer speed (Mbps and MB/s) from the data size and the time a download or upload took. Conversions to bps and Bps are shown at the same time.
Input
Transferred data size
Time it took to transfer
Result
Effective transfer speed
27.96Mbps
= 3.33 MB/s
Speed (bps)
27,962,027 bps
Speed (Bps)
3,495,253 B/s
Total data
838,860,800 bit
| Transfer speed (Mbps / decimal) | 27.96 Mbps |
| Transfer speed (MB/s / binary) | 3.33 MB/s |
| Transfer speed (bit/s) | 27,962,027 bps |
| Transfer speed (byte/s) | 3,495,253 B/s |
| Total data (bit) | 838,860,800 bit |
| Total data (byte) | 104,857,600 B |
| Transfer time (total) | 30 s |
How it works
- Enter the amount of data transferred (choose from bit, B, KB, MB, GB, or TB) and the time it took (hours, minutes, seconds) to calculate the effective transfer speed automatically.
- Speed is found by dividing the data size by the time. The main result is shown in Mbps, common for network connections, with MB/s shown as a familiar file-size reference.
- Mbps is converted in decimal (1 million bits/s) following network industry convention, while MB/s uses binary (1024 x 1024 bytes/s) following file-size convention, so they are not a simple factor of 8 apart.
- Conversions assume 1 byte = 8 bits, and the table also shows bps (bits per second), Bps (bytes per second), and the total bit count.
- Enter your measured download or upload time to gauge your connection speed or check for slowdowns.
- All input values are calculated in your browser only and are never sent to a server.
