How it works
- Select a calendar year to list all 11 U.S. federal holidays for that year, along with their dates and the day of the week.
- New Year's Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Veterans Day, and Christmas fall on the same month and day every year. Others, such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Thanksgiving, move each year because they are defined by weekday rules like the 'third Monday' or the 'fourth Thursday' of a month.
- When a federal holiday lands on a Saturday it is generally observed on the preceding Friday, and when it lands on a Sunday on the following Monday. This tool shows the actual holiday date rather than the observed date.
- Juneteenth (Juneteenth National Independence Day) became a federal holiday in 2021, so the selectable years start from 2021.
- Each holiday is shown with both its official English name and a short description, which is useful when planning travel, business trips, or scheduling with U.S. contacts.
- These are the holidays designated by the federal government. Individual states may add their own holidays, and observance can differ among companies and schools.
