Volumetric (Dimensional) Weight Calculator

Calculate the volumetric (dimensional) weight of a parcel from its length, width and height (cm) and a volumetric divisor. Enter the actual weight too and the tool decides which figure (the larger one) is the chargeable weight. Supports air freight 6000, international courier 5000 and more.

How it works

  • Volumetric (dimensional) weight is found with "length cm × width cm × height cm ÷ divisor". It converts a parcel's apparent size into a weight and is used to charge freight for light but bulky shipments.
  • The divisor (volumetric factor) depends on the shipping method. Air freight commonly uses 6000, while international couriers and some carriers use 5000. Choose the value your carrier specifies.
  • Freight charges are usually based on the larger of the volumetric and actual weights, known as the chargeable weight. Enter the actual weight and the tool shows which one applies.
  • Measure dimensions using the packed outer size (the longest point) as a rule. Rounding methods (such as rounding-up units) vary by carrier, so confirm exact rates with each company's policy.
  • The lighter and larger a parcel is, the more likely its volumetric weight exceeds its actual weight, which can make postage higher than expected. Checking the volumetric weight before shipping helps you predict the cost.
