Wedge Volume
Find the volume of a wedge with a rectangular base from its sides, ridge, and height.
Input
For a wedge with a rectangular base, enter the base sides a and b, the top ridge c, and the height h to compute the volume.
Result
Volume

Lengths share the unit you enter, and the volume uses the cube of that unit.
How it works
- This tool finds the volume of a wedge whose base is a rectangle (long side a, short side b) with a top ridge of length c running parallel to side a.
- The volume formula is V equals (b h divided by 6) times (2a plus c), where b is the short base side, h is the height, a is the long base side, and c is the top ridge length.
- When c equals a the shape becomes a triangular prism (half of a rectangular box); when c equals 0 it becomes a rectangular pyramid.
- Lengths share the unit you enter, and the volume uses the cube of that unit. For example, entering lengths in cm gives the volume in cubic cm.
- Enter each dimension as a positive value. Only the ridge c is allowed to be 0 or greater.
