How it works

  • Energy use (kWh) is calculated as power (W) / 1000 x hours used per day x days used. CO2 emissions equal energy use (kWh) x CO2 emission factor, and the electricity cost equals energy use (kWh) x electricity rate.
  • The default CO2 emission factor is about 0.45 kg-CO2 per kWh, a representative grid-average value. Emission factors vary widely by country, utility and electricity mix (roughly 0.43-0.47 kg-CO2/kWh here as an example), so adjust the field to match your own region.
  • The default electricity rate is a placeholder; actual rates depend on your country, currency, plan, time of day and fuel surcharges. Replace it with the rate from your utility bill for a more accurate estimate.
  • All figures shown are rough estimates based on typical values. Standby power, voltage fluctuation and power factor are not taken into account, so check a power meter or utility bill for exact consumption.
