How it works

  • The total is divided by the number of people and then rounded to your chosen unit to give the amount each person pays. Example: splitting 100 among 4 people, rounded to the nearest 1, is 25 each.
  • You can round up, round to the nearest unit, or round down. Rounding up tends to collect more than the total (leaving change), while rounding down means the organizer covers the shortfall.
  • The organizer balance is the total collected when everyone pays the displayed amount minus the actual total. A positive value means too much was collected (change); a negative value means the organizer is out of pocket.
  • Using a larger rounding unit keeps the math simple but increases the change or shortfall. Choose the smallest unit for the most exact split.
  • Handy for splitting dinners, lunches, parties, and trip expenses. Use the share button to post the per-person amount on social media.
  • Displayed amounts are estimates based on your inputs. If someone should pay more or less (a weighted split), adjust the result separately.
