Alcohol Dependence Self-Check (Men)

Answer 12 quick questions about your drinking with Yes or No, and your total score is automatically rated as Normal range, Needs attention, or Possible problem drinking. A simplified self-check inspired by the men's Kurihama (KAST) screening test — use it as a prompt to reflect on your drinking, not as a diagnosis.

Input

Answer each item below with "Yes" or "No," thinking about your drinking over the past year or so. This is only a quick self-check, not a medical diagnosis.

How it works

  • Answer all 12 Yes/No questions about your drinking. Each "Yes" adds a preset score; the scores are summed and your total places you in a result band. Your result appears once every item is answered.
  • The guide bands are: under 1 point is "Normal range," 1 to under 2 points is "Needs attention," and 2 points or more is "Possible problem drinking." These cutoffs are an original guideline inspired by the banding approach of the Kurihama Alcoholism Screening Test (KAST).
  • The questions follow the intent of the men's Kurihama (KAST) test but are not a reproduction of the original questionnaire; they are reworded in our own words as a simplified check, and the scoring is our own simplified version.
  • Answering with your drinking over roughly the past year in mind gives a result closer to your real situation. A higher score means more signs that your drinking deserves attention.
  • Treat the result as reference information for reflecting on your drinking — for example, setting alcohol-free days or limiting your daily pure-alcohol intake as a starting point for reviewing your lifestyle.
  • This is a simple self-check, not a medical diagnosis or treatment. Regardless of the result, if you have symptoms that worry you, please consult a mental health center, a specialist medical provider, or a local support line.
