How it works
- The simple yield to maturity (%) is calculated as { coupon rate + (redemption price − purchase price) ÷ years to maturity } ÷ purchase price × 100.
- The redemption price is fixed at a face value of 100, and the purchase price is varied as a value per 100 face value (e.g. 90–110) to list the corresponding yields.
- The coupon rate is the annual interest per 100 face value (%), and years to maturity is the time remaining until redemption. The price range can be set to 95–105, 90–110, or 80–120.
- The further the purchase price is below par (100), the larger the redemption gain and the higher the yield; the further above par, the larger the redemption loss and the lower the yield. The row at a price of 100 (par) is highlighted.
- Simple yield to maturity is a quick metric that ignores the reinvestment of interest. It does not include the compound-based yield, accrued interest at purchase, fees, or taxes (on interest or redemption gains).
- Note: results are rough estimates. Actual purchase prices, yields, and payouts vary with the bond's terms, market conditions, fees, and tax rules. Check the latest prospectus and your financial institution's information, and make investment decisions at your own responsibility.
