Carrying Load Calorie Calculator

Estimate the calories you burn carrying loads from your body weight, the time spent, and the intensity of the work. See at a glance how much effort goes into moving house, hauling deliveries, or loading and unloading boxes, with conversions into bowls of rice and grams of body fat.

Input

Estimate how many calories you burn carrying loads, based on your body weight, the time spent, and the intensity of the work. Handy for gauging the effort of moving house, hauling deliveries, or loading and unloading boxes. METs are typical values, so treat the result as a rough guide.

How it works

  • Calories burned are calculated as METs x body weight (kg) x duration (hours) x 1.05. Enter the duration in minutes; it is converted to hours internally.
  • Choose from typical METs values for carrying loads (carrying light loads: 3.5, loading and unloading boxes: 7.0, carrying heavy loads or upstairs: 8.0). These METs are guideline values based on representative figures from the Compendium of Physical Activities (revised).
  • The rice-bowl conversion assumes about 234 kcal per bowl, and the body-fat conversion assumes about 7.2 kcal per gram; both are reference estimates.
  • The displayed figure includes your basal metabolism. The calories added purely by the activity itself are somewhat lower than this.
  • Actual calories burned vary with age, sex, build, load weight, lifting technique, and rest breaks. Use the displayed value only as a rough guide.
  • Body weight can be entered from 5 to 300 kg, and duration from 0 to 1440 minutes (24 hours).
