Taxi Fare Split Calculator

Fairly split a shared taxi fare by allocating each leg's cost across the riders on board, in the order they get out. Just enter the cumulative meter fare to each drop-off point and the number of riders, and each person's share is calculated automatically.

Input

In the order people get out, enter the cumulative meter fare up to each drop-off point and the number of riders on board for that leg.

How it works

  • The shared taxi ride is split into legs. A leg is one stretch up to the point where a rider gets out. For each leg, enter the cumulative meter fare to that drop-off point and the number of riders on board during that leg.
  • Each leg's cost is found as its cumulative fare minus the previous leg's cumulative fare. For example, if leg 1 is $12.00 and leg 2's cumulative total is $20.00, then leg 2 costs $8.00.
  • Each leg's cost is divided equally among the riders on board for that leg, and every rider's shares across all the legs they were on are added up to give their total. The earlier someone gets out, the shorter their distance and the smaller their share.
  • How to use: list the legs in drop-off order and enter the cumulative fare and number of riders on each row. Use "Add leg (drop-off point)" to add legs with different rider counts. A later leg's rider count should be less than or equal to the previous leg's, since riders only get out.
  • Sub-unit rounding is handled by rounding each rider's share and then adjusting the rider who stayed to the end, so the totals match the original fare exactly.
  • Note: this tool calculates an estimate. If you want to split fees beyond the meter, such as late-night surcharges or dispatch and booking fees, decide in advance whether to include them in the cumulative fare before entering it.
