Water Walking Calorie Calculator

Calculate the calories burned during water walking (aqua walking) from your weight, exercise time, and walking intensity. Choose from three METs levels — slow, moderate, and fast — and instantly see the equivalent in bowls of rice and body fat.

Input

Estimate the calories burned during water walking (aqua walking) from your weight, exercise time, and walking intensity. METs (exercise intensity) values are approximate, and actual energy expenditure varies from person to person.

How it works

  • Calories burned are calculated as "METs × weight (kg) × exercise time (hours) × 1.05". This common simplified formula includes resting metabolism, so the result tends to be slightly higher than the net energy burned through exercise alone.
  • METs (metabolic equivalents) is an index of exercise intensity expressed as a multiple of the resting state (set to 1). This tool lets you choose the water walking intensity from three levels: slow (2.5 METs), moderate (4.5 METs), and fast (6.8 METs).
  • The METs values are representative estimates based on references such as the National Institute of Health and Nutrition's MET table for physical activities. Actual exercise intensity varies with water depth, water temperature, walking posture, arm use, and more.
  • For reference, the result also shows the equivalent in bowls of rice (about 234 kcal each) and grams of body fat (about 7.2 kcal each). Because the mechanisms of intake and storage are complex, please treat these as rough guides only.
  • Calories burned vary by individual factors such as body size, age, body composition, and exercise proficiency. The displayed figures are approximate and are not a substitute for medical or professional guidance.
  • If you have a chronic condition or any concerns about exercising, consult a doctor or specialist about your exercise volume and intensity, and work out within a comfortable range.
